GOAL: To start cooking at least 3 times per week, but for now once a week will do.
So I was looking for a spaghetti recipe, took me an hour, I'm so fucking picky. Finally, thanks to the overwhelming choices epicurious.com leaves your mouth watering over, also started thinking of giving those chefs a nasty shank eye for being able to cook them up with ease, found a simple, easy, so I thought, recipe. Fresh-Tasting Tomato sauce and spaghetti is the title of the dish, here's the link. http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Fresh-Tasting-Tomato-Sauce-and-Spaghetti-40033 .
Off to Whole Foods or as my step dad likes to call it, "Whole Pay-Check". Lost in the produce section hunting for basic ingredients, took me about 10 min to find basil, sadness, though I did have help from Mr. Big, thanks sir! Total cost = 25.00 ( This amount will feed a host of starving college students). I need to learn how to portion.
Back home, nervous, anxious, and sacred, fearing I'll burn my apartment down. I had a horrible experience once cooking a frozen meal from Safeway, I think it was called "Brittoli", a couple years back, in my mothers garage kitchen (most Indian households have two kitchens one for decor, and the other for getting down and dirty with masla in). I almost burnt the garage down. The walls, stove, and poor microwave were burnt, still usable though, sorry again Ma. Que music, Janet Jackson number ones, girl will get you going.
Time to whip out the cooking utensils, nothing fancy, yet, just the basic, oh you know, a cutting board, knifes, bowels, strainer, etc, courtesy of la mere, merci.
Prep: Fuck this shit, cutting, straining, it's all to much, and what a mess! I stuck through it, thanks Ms. Jackson. After the headache, I was having fun. incorporating my own ingredients, like most Indians I LOVE SPICY FOOD, a splash of chili pepper, cayenne pepper, and paprika will do me justice, and it did. Also added mushroom, and asparagus, meat would have taken too long. I got into a flow, stir, add, stir, taste, and clean (add rolling eyes).
Final stages: It was smelling nice, someone seriously needs to bottle up the aroma, you know somebody wants to spray that shizz in there bathroom. I was just hoping the dish turned out good, or mediocre at least. Add pasta to sauce with asparagus, and mushroom, and POW I finished the dish! Popped a bottle of wine (chardonnay), and plated the spaghetti.
Outcome: Not bad (Indian accent with head shake). Definitely not Terroni my favorite Italian resto in L.A my friend took me to, and now am in love with, http://www.terroni.ca/ . My dish was yum, you know I'm just naturally talented, what can I say.
